The opening ceremony for the Voltfang Future Fab was attended by Hendrik Wüst, Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, who praised the project as an example of how sustainable innovation can provide real momentum and strengthen the competitiveness of local industry.
Voltfang uses both second-life and surplus batteries, including those from automotive industry overproduction, instead of relying on newly mined materials, helping reduce imports of unsustainably sourced rare raw materials. Previously operating on a workshop scale, the company has set a goal of delivering 250 MWh of storage capacity by the end of 2026.
In July, Voltfang signed an aval agreement with Commerzbank for EUR 3 million to expand its financing structure and accelerate growth. This followed a EUR-15-million Series B fundraising round closed in June.
Earlier this year, the German start-up initiated the construction of a 9.5-MW/20.34-MWh grid-serving storage facility in North Rhine-Westphalia.
